Scardy-Cat

Narrator:
Lily Hastily and her best friend Laura Ally are sitting in Lily's room. Tomorrow is their first day at school. They are talking about it.

Lily:
I really don't want to go to school.
Laura:
But... [interrupted by Lily]
Lily:
My brother told me that you can't play with your dolls anymore because the other kids will laugh at you...
Laura:
And you have to do sooooo much homework. [spreading her arms]

Narrator:
[Knocking] Lily's mother enters the room.

Mother:
Hey you two! Do you want some cookies?
Lily:
No... [with dislike in her voice]
Mother:
What could be so bad that you don't want any of ‘Mummy's home made cookies'?
Laura:
‘School' - Mrs Hastily! [with sadness]
Lily:
[sighing] This will be life's end! We're not allowed to play, we're not allowed to have fun, we're not allowed to...
Laura:
... and we don't know anybody.
Mother:
[laughing] Oh, you silly girls! School is a lot of fun and Mrs Drill, your teacher, is really nice. I met her in the supermarket yesterday. [the mother exits the room]
Lily:
Drill...What a name!
Laura:
Sounds like ‘Thrill'... Maybe she eats children?
Lily:
[determinedly] We have to do something! What about... Hm... Why don't we hide the car keys?
Laura:
Good idea!

Narrator:
Lily and Laura are tiptoe out of the room into the floor. They take the car key and hide it under the heater in Lily's room.

Laura:
But what if your mom finds the key?
Lily:
Oh Sh......ining sun!

Narrator:
Lily knows exactly that her mother does not want her to curse.
The girls start whispering. Suddenly, Lily goes into the bathroom and gets the clinical thermometer while Laura takes a blue pen and draws blue spots all over her face. Lily comes back and puts the thermometer on the lamp.
Meanwhile, Lily's mother is standing at the floor, watching the girls through the half open door. As she enters Lily and Laura lie on the couch and start moaning.

Lily:
Oh mommy, I'm so sick.
Laura:
Me too... I think I've got ... [hesitates] ... yes, the measles! They are really dangerous!

Narrator:
The mother takes the thermometer and looks at it.

Mother:
Oh my goodness! 152° Fahrenheit. [big smile] That's close to death! Hurry up my dear ladies! I have to take you to hospital. [Lily and Laura were really shocked, looked at each other and shouted out loud]
Lily and Laura:
Oh no! Not to hospital!
Lily:
Hm... But I think... Maybe tomorrow it will be better? I think...

Narrator:
Lily and Laura decided that it is better to go to school than to go to hospital.

The next day in school. [Mrs Drill enters]

Mrs Drill:
Good morning boys and girls! My name is Mrs Drill but I am not a thrill! [class is laughing] Let us play a game first.

Narrator:
Laura and Lily looked at each other and had a big smile on their faces. They decided...

Lily and Laura:
School is really cool!
